Itinerari i bukuris
A trail through the millenary history of a land that has always been inhabited.
Itinerari i Bukuris (The Beauty Trail) is a circular route born from a lifetime of experience and nearly fifteen years of experimentation by the members of the Vivere Slow Association.
Their goal has always been to enhance a unique area of Sicily, still largely unexplored, between the Sicani Mountains and the Belìce Valley, stretching from the sea of Selinunte to Monte Genuardo, with the aim of creating and promoting a unique path that allows visitors to discover and relive the places that shaped the history of this still-unexplored Sicilian territory.
This route passes through towns such as Contessa Entellina, Giuliana, Bisacquino, Chiusa Sclafani, and Sambuca di Sicilia, connecting historical and natural sites like the Abbey of Santa Maria del Bosco, the Castle of Calatamauro, the Santa Maria del Bosco Nature Reserve, and the vast vineyards and olive groves of the Belìce Valley.
The itinerary is not just a simple trail but a true journey through cultural diversity, where the Arbëreshe language intertwines with various Sicilian dialects, and where visitors can savor the unspoiled products of a generous land.
Itinerari i Bukuris touristic hub
Primarily, it is a trekking trail that, starting from the facility managed by the Vivere Slow Association—the former Convent of the Basilian Nuns in Contessa Entellina (Pa)—connects the local cultural and natural heritage with two of the most important regional trails, namely the ‘Itinerarium Rosaliae’ and the ‘Ancient Sicilian Transversal.’ Consequently, our facility has become one of the first tourist hubs for ‘Slow Tourism’ in Sicily.
Unforgettable experiences
The circular route winds along ancient trails, rediscovered and enhanced through explorations and research by the members of Vivere Slow. This meticulous work was carried out both on paper and in the field, with direct explorations of the area to allow for an accurate mapping of the entire trail.
Along the route, visitors traverse evocative landscapes, from Contessa Entellina to the Calatamauro Forest, crossing valleys, hills, and streams, and encountering a rest stop—a picnic area with all necessary facilities for hikers, cycling enthusiasts, and horseback trekking practitioners. It is also an ideal place for those who simply want to relax immersed in unspoiled nature, sipping local wine or spring water, or simply enjoying the stunning panorama.
The trail…
Hot spots
The starting and finishing point of this trail is the former Convent of the Basilian Nuns in Contessa Entellina (PA), managed by the Vivere Slow Association. The facility is ready to welcome hikers and is equipped to provide information for visiting the neighboring towns as well.
The trail symbolically connects two different religious communities: the Byzantine rite community of Contessa Entellina (PA) and the Latin rite community of the Abbey of Santa Maria del Bosco in Calatamauro, the furthest point reached by the itinerary.
